Coding agents

All your coding agents on one board.

Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI or Hermes run in terminals. Mnemosyne OS shows each one as a card on your board. The card tells you which agent waits for you, and you answer it there. Pair your other computers, and their agents join the same board.

One computer

Install herdr from the settings.

herdr is a terminal that recognises coding agents. Open Settings › Agents and press Install herdr. The app downloads herdr and checks its fingerprint. Then press Open herdr: a terminal opens on your screen, and your agents run in it.

Each agent gets a card on the board. The card shows the state herdr detects: working, waiting for you, done. When an agent waits, the card shows the last three lines of its terminal, so you read the question without switching windows.

herdr

herdr is an independent project, under the Apache-2.0 licence. Its site has the install guide and the documentation.

Start an agent

Pick an agent and a folder.

In Settings › Agents, choose the kind of agent and the project folder, then press Start. herdr opens a workspace in that folder and starts the agent. Its card appears on the board a moment later.

My machines

Pair your computers. See every agent from either one.

Install the same version on both computers. On each one, turn P2P on in Settings › P2P and add the other computer as a contact. Then, in Settings › Agents › My machines, pick the other computer and press Pair this computer. Both screens show a six-digit code. When the codes match, press Same code: accept on the second computer.

From then on, the agents of each computer appear on the board of the other. You answer them from either computer. The answer travels to the computer that runs the agent, through the encrypted tunnel between your machines.

Share the work

One computer draws the pictures for the others.

On the computer with the graphics card, install the local image engine in Settings › Images. Then tick This computer draws the pictures my other machines ask for. On your laptop, describe the picture under Ask a machine for a picture and press Send. The picture is drawn on the other computer and comes back to your laptop as a new file.

If the drawing computer is off, the request waits. The line says which machine it waits for, and since when. The request leaves as soon as that machine is back.

FAQ

Questions

What is herdr?
herdr is a terminal multiplexer, like tmux, that recognises about twenty kinds of coding agents. It is made by another publisher, under the Apache-2.0 licence. Mnemosyne OS installs it for you and reads the state it reports.
How does the card know an agent is waiting?
herdr reads the screen of the terminal and recognises the agent. The card shows that detected state, labelled as detected by herdr. It also shows how long ago the agent last showed a sign of life.
Does herdr go online?
Yes, when it starts. It downloads its agent detection rules and checks for an update. Without internet, it uses the rules built into it.
Can I pair with a friend’s computer?
Pairing is for your own computers. To share a vault or send a message to another person, use the peer-to-peer network with that person as a peer.
What travels between my machines?
The cards, your answers to the agents, and for the image role the prompt and the finished picture. They go through the encrypted tunnel between your paired computers. Each computer keeps its own vaults and its own license.
